Dub Syndicate można uznać za jedną z „największych legend współczesnego reggae, gdzie roots grane na żywo ubarwione jest futurystycznymi dźwiękami dubu”. Zadebiutowali płytą „The Pounding Sound”, wydaną w 1982 roku. Doceniono ich jednak w roku następnym kiedy ukazał się „One Way System”. Od początku filarem grupy jest jej perkusista Scott Style, który wraz z Flabba Holt’em zaczynał swoją przygodę z muzyką w legendarnym jamajskim składzie The Roots Radics. To właśnie oni wprowadzili na scenę ciężkie dancehallowe brzmienia. Siła Dub Syndicate opierała się jedynie na muzyce, futurystycznych dżwiękach uważano bowiem że słowa są całkowicie zbędne. Zmieniło się to dopiero w 1998 roku nagraniem płyty "Mellow & Colly" na której dźwięki uzupełnione są o wokale. ”Na trasie po Polsce we wrześniu 2001 roku po raz pierwszy w swojej historii zespół na żywo zaprezentował się również z wokalistą. Był nim Fred Locks, słynny m.in. z autorstwa hymnu rasta lat 70-tych "Black Starliners" oraz albumu wydanego nakładem renomowanej jamajskiej wytwórni Xterminator”.
