Dennis Brown wcześnie rozpoczął swą muzyczną karierę. Mając 9 lat zaczął występy z Byronem Lee and The Dragonaires, nagrania w słynnym Studio One odbyły się 2 lata później. W wieku 12 lat wydał swój pierwszy hit pt. "No man is an Island". Lata 70-te to okres nagrań w wielu jamajskich studiach, ale z żadnym z nich nie był związany na stałe. Pozwoliło mu to na nagrywanie u największych - Lloyd Daley, Joe Gibbs, Niney The Observer i inni. Dyskografia tego niezwykle płodnego artysty liczy ponad 50 płyt, to wynik naprawdę imponujący.
