The Police brytyjska grupa rockowa z kręgu new wave, ale w jej twórczości można odnaleźć wpływy gatunków takich jak reggae, jazz czy punk rock. The Police powstało w 1976 r. w Londynie, tworzyli ją Sting (gitara basowa i śpiew), Andy Summers (gitara) oraz Stewart Copeland (perkusja). Ich pierwszym hitem była Roxanne wydana na singlu w 1978 r. Grupa wydała szereg znakomitych albumów i zdobyła 6 nagród Grammy na początku lat osiemdziesiątych. Ich ostatni album Synchronicity ukazał się w 1983 r., a ostatni koncert dali w połowie 1984 r. w Melbourne. Grupa reaktywowała sie w roku 1986, aby nagrać piosenkę Don't Stand So Close to Me, ale nie na długo. Od tej pory wszyscy członkowie zespołu rozpoczęli kariery solowe. Ponownie jako The Police spotkali się 10 marca 2003 z okazji wręczenia nagrody Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. 11 lutego 2007 roku podczas wręczenia nagród grammy zespół ogłosił reaktywację. Trasa koncertowa trwała 1,5 roku, a ostatni koncert odbył się 8 sierpnia 2008r. Muzycy ponownie wrócili do swoich solowych projektów.
