STEEL PULSE Pochodzą z Birmingham, z dzielnicy Handsworth, gdzie 1976 spotkało się pięciu muzyków, by założyć jedną z najpopularniejszych grup brytyjskiej reggae. Byli nimi: gitarzysta — Basil Gab-bidon, wokalista — David Hinds, pianista — Selwyn Brown, basista — Ronnie Mc Oueen i perkusista — Steve Nesbitt. Pierwszego singla Kibudu, Mansetta And Abuku wydali w małym nakładzie w 1976 roku, zaś koncerty, które po tym nastąpiły wniosły do występów niespotykane dotąd elementy sceniczne. Występowali, w zależności od treści odpowiedniej piosenki, w strojach więziennych, w habitach, czy szatach Ku--Klux-Klan. W Londynie cieszyli się sympatią środowiska punkowego, co znalazło swój wyraz w występie na Front Row Festiwal w 1978 roku, którego fragment ukazał się na płycie dokumentującej to wydarzenie. W 1978 roku Island Records wydała ich pierwszą płytę Handswordh Revolution, po której na rynku ukazała się Tribute To The Martyrs. Wydanie True Democracy i Caught You to już lata 80. w działalności zespołu, które charakteryzuje zbliżenie się do stylistyki rocka i muzyki pop. Płyta Earth Crisis z 1983 jest dowodem zmiany brzmienia, celem poszerzenia grona słuchaczy, początkuje nową erę w reggae. To pierwsza płyta tego gatunku zarejestrowana cyfrowo.
